Gail Kinnear (Miller)

Carmel Pine Cone, CA Dec 10, 2009

Kekaha, Kauai - Gail Kinnear Miller, 54 died November 29, 2009 at her home on the beach in Kekaha following a long battle with cancer. Gail was born March 5, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. In 1956 her family moved to the Monterey Peninsula where Gail grew up. She graduated from Santa Catalina in 1973. She loved the Monterey Peninsula and always thought of it as home. Gail moved to Maui in 1975 and with the exception of 4 years, 1995 – 99 when she moved back here to the Peninsula, she spent the rest of her life on the islands. In 1999 she moved to Kekaha, a former sugar plantation town on Kauai, where she purchased a 1936 plantation owner’s home badly in need of repair. Her restoration/design of that home was featured in The Hawaiian House Now. She loved her little house by the sea. It was to be her last home. Gail was an internationally recognized interior designer, a member of ASID and was known professionally for her use of neutral tones, overscaled furniture and an indoor/outdoor feeling in her designs. She was published in many interior design books and magazines. Gail was a fabulous cook. Her food always looked as good as it tasted. Presentation was everything. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage, which her friends say is what made her so strong. She is remembered as a loyal friend, thoughtful and extremely generous. Gail was someone you could always count on for honest counsel, support and a poem. She wrote great poems. Those who have any of Gail’s poems are encouraged to read them at her service. When Gail wasn’t involved in a Bible study at her church, she held them in her home. Her faith sustained her through the years she fought the cancer that finally consumed her. She spent a lot of time counseling and encouraging other cancer patients all over the world. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and she kept an extensive prayer list. She wanted all her friends and family to know the Lord she loved and served. Her sister Sharon Kinnear preceded Gail in death. She is survived by her son Raymond Miller, of Kekaha; her parents Ian and Ida Kinnear of Spreckelsville, Maui; sister Cynthia Kinnear Menkal  (Christian) of Carmel: brother Ian of Wailuku, Maui; nieces and nephews and her beloved chocolate Labrador, Waldo Jefferson Fudge V A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, December 29th at 3:30 p.m. at Carmel Presbyterian Church, corner of Ocean and Junipero in downtown Carmel. The service will be officiated by Dr John Snyder. There will be a Reception after the service. If you send flowers, please send only white ones. I missed this notice. I knew Gail at Forest Grove. A beautiful girl. So young. Always a wonderful spirit as I remember.

Wow, I never knew about Gails passing either. We didn't hang in the same circles but we did have drivers ed together and she made me laugh the entiree time. Even when she dug her fingers into my leg while another of us students were behind the wheel. Way too young.
